Forgiveness
Friendship dies once trust is lost
Though love may yet remain,
No tears can wash away the cost
Nor grief relieve the pain.
Regret cannot erase the act
As any sage will say,
The past remains the truth, the fact,
The price, the sinner’s pay.
From bulging spoils we prosper now
Yet fruit must turn to seed,
If we could but acknowledge how
Less worthy lives we lead.
Those that know me, judge me fair,
Redemption for my past,
Absolve my guilt as I prepare
The good in me to last.
For here I kneel, all spent and weak,
Though strong I need to be,
Forgiveness with these words I seek
Deep in the heart of me.
