The Candle

Only in the centre is it certain
From there a mighty wheel is geared to turn,
Where sits the everlasting holy candle
Ignited by a single spark to burn.

There glows the light that promises redemption
Delivering the broken and the blind,
Gifting sight to help us find the answer
To why the life we seek we cannot find.

Long we crave a better understanding
Wisdom from our years of troubled reign,
We curse the lack of time for calm reflection
As through the hourglass slips the precious grain.

How odd that sheep seem not to tire of lambing
Nor birds forget the detail of their song,
Yet swiftly how we lose our sense of purpose
And values that we cherished for so long.

Perhaps what we were taught should now be challenged
No matter how disruptive that may seem,
Doubt those words that never truly touched us
Like children we need time to muse and dream.

Pursue with courage all you ever wished for
Conviction to declare what you hold true,
Let no one ever sway you from your purpose
The only one to stop you should be you.

So when you find yourself within that circle
The centre where the wheel is geared to turn,
Strive to find that everlasting candle
Ignited by a single spark to burn.
