The Door
When my time comes and I go there
With wrinkled skin and thinning hair,
I’ll seek out those I knew before
As I pass through that final door.
I promise you I will be brave
And trust that all the love I gave
Will prove enough as in I go
To reunite with those I know.
If I can reassure you too
With this short verse composed for you,
When your time comes, your day draws near,
These lines may yet allay your fear.
Not on your knees, if you must pray,
Choose the words you mean to say,
The hopes I had, the joy I knew,
Will flourish and form part of you.
If love can conquer fear I pray
I gave enough to earn my stay,
And all I worked so hard to do
Will linger on from me to you.
Doubts, of course, we all must feel
To puzzle what is false or real,
We leave from where we once were sent
Through that same door as in we went.
