Wilfred
Wilfred the worm lay exhausted
In the rain, on the path, by the road,
He had struggled to drag himself forward
Flushed out from his earthly abode.
“Please do not tread on my body!”
Wilfred the worm tried to say,
“I need some kind being to save me
I don’t want to die in this way.”
“Look at me here, don’t ignore me,
Pick me up from this miserable place,
I’ve been crawling along for a lifetime
I’m not sure how much more I can face.”
“I’m not meant to be here on this pathway
I was washed from the soil by the flood,
I haven’t a clue where I’m going
But my home’s disappeared in the mud.”
“Will someone please come to my rescue
Return me to where I should be,
It would only delay you a moment
And make such a difference to me”.
“All I can offer is friendship
From the simplest of worms that you see,
I would always remember your kindness
For taking this trouble for me”.
